Examine your own biases and countertransference around monogamy and non-traditional relationships

Modern relationships today take many forms. Couples create them intentionally, with a focus on honesty, transparency, and equality. While these relationships fall all along the relationship spectrum, these relationship choices have in common the dilemma of personal and relational integrity. How do couples negotiate commitment, keep their promises, and find their personal sexual freedom at the same time?

This course looks at contemporary relationships and helps clinicians guide couples to create sustainable and flexible monogamy agreements that contribute positively to relational change.

Learning Objectives:

In this training, participants will:

  1. Explore monogamy issues as relational dilemmas and how specific behavioral interventions can decrease conflict in therapy;
  2. Identify specific behavioral interventions for open monogamy as they relate to dilemmas such as betrayal, trauma, and infidelity;
  3. Explore how monogamy agreements affect and inform treatment interventions;
  4. Examine interventions for couples who want to create a new vision for their recovery and evaluate how this informs treatment outcomes.
