Washington DC is the least faithful city in America

Ashley Madison, a dating site intended to help married partners arrange extra-marital affairs, has announced that Washington, DC is the least faithful city in America, based on the number of site registrations from the area. Founder and CEO of Ashley Madison theorizes that the media frenzy over political infidelity scandals over the past couple years has led to a culture of expectation and acceptance in Washington, DC. Basically, if you’re not cheating on your spouse, you’re not doing it right.

There’s some good news for the rest of us though. From Huffington Post’s article on the issue:

“cheating is far from widespread in the United States. In a 2010 General Social Survey sponsored by the National Science Foundation, 19 percent of men said that they had been unfaithful at some point during their marriages, down from 21 percent in 1991. The number of women who reported having an affair, meanwhile, increased from 11 percent in 1991 to 14 percent in 2010.”

The articles mentions that the week following Valentine’s Day is one of Ashley Madison’s busiest weeks with lots of new registrations – I wonder how many disgruntled spouses joined the search this week?
