The Ups and Downs of Open Relationships

Relationships take on a wide variety of configurations including monogamous, polyamorous, sexually non-monogamous, emotionally non-monogamous, and many more. Founder of Loving More Robyn Trask joined a panel discussion on HuffPost Live with relationship expert Stacey Nelkin, HuffingtonPost editor Noah Milchelson, and hosted by Caitlyn Becker talking about whether polyamorous relationships are healthy or hurtful.

Gay Voices editor Noah Michelson remarks, “the word that comes to my mind, when I think about what Robyn is saying, is healthy. I’m not so sure that a monogamous, jealous relationship like I have been in, is a healthy relationship and it sounds like Robyn has a lot of communication going on with her partners, with her children. They’ve decided what they want their lives to look like and it works. That sounds amazing to me!”

This is the key to The New Monogamy – each person in the relationship is included in the conversation and negotiates the relationship agreement. Whether you choose monogamy, monogamish, sexually open, or polyamory – healthy is when the communication is plentiful and honest.
