Wed – May 15, 10 am – 1 pm ET — Sex Coaching Clients in Dating, Kink, BDSM and Sexual Exploration with Carmen Joseph

Kinky fantasies are very common, and possibly due to a rise in divorce, expanding relationship styles and access to BDSM information and resources, more people are beginning to explore their own desires in different ways and at all ages. Although BDSM communities exist, not everyone who is kink-curious engages in these communities or takes advantage of the resources that exist. The expansion of interest in kink and BDSM has seeped into the larger dating and hook-up environments and often leads to surprising and unwelcomed experiences. This course will illustrate where clients may need support and will examine tools to help therapists and coaches assist their clients on their sexual explorations.

Wed – May 15, 2 pm – 6 pm ET — Sex and Aging with Jane Fleishman, Ph.D.

Given the societal taboos against discussing sexuality especially when it centers on older adults, this training will offer a unique opportunity to apply current research and resources to clinical practice with older adults who are experiencing the challenge of balancing both the losses and the pleasures of sexuality as they age. The focus of this highly-engaging session is on improving knowledge, skills, and attitudes regarding the impacts of aging on sexuality, the sexual challenges of chronic illness, and the possibilities for pleasure with an emphasis on application to working clinically with an aging population. Participants will benefit from the presentation, activities, and opportunities for frank discussion with a sexuality educator who has been focusing on older adults and their sexuality for the past ten years.

Thu – May 16, 10 am – 1 pm ET  — Cancer and Wellness with Pebble Krantz, Ph.D.

In 2024, an estimated 2 million new cancer cases are projected in the US, affecting not only the individuals diagnosed but also their partners. Up to 90% of cancer survivors experience sexual concerns, which can significantly impact both their individual health and relational well-being. Cancer treatments, including surgeries, radiation, and chemotherapy, can result in various sexual changes.

This 3-hour seminar will delve into the most common sexual concerns faced by people with cancer experiences. The primary focus will be on presenting practical solutions and effective strategies for sex and relational therapists to support clients on their path to sexual wellness. By the end of this seminar, participants will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to provide compassionate, knowledgeable, and effective support for cancer survivors and their partners as they navigate sexual wellness during an after cancer treatments.

Thu – May 16, 2 pm – 6 pm ET  — Sex, Kink and Religion with Tammy Nelson, Ph.D.

What is BDSM and how does religion play a part in reclaiming faith, dealing with shame and lead to Sexual Empowerment

Can kink and BDSM act as a healing process for those who have backgrounds in religion? How does religion play a part in those who practice kink and live a SM lifestyle? Through the  integration of understanding the principles of religion and sexuality we will uncover how therapists can collaborate therapeutically with religious beliefs and apply interventions that do not conflict with internal value structures.  We will discuss countertransference and triggers and how to work with cultures that are not our own. Religion many times teaches gender coding and procreation rules, we will discuss sexualized guilt and shame and how kink may be a form of healing through pleasure and play. With relational integration, and a look at pleasure disorders and their treatment, we will discuss what therapists need to be aware of and how to integrate positive value interventions without eliciting more shame and guilt into the treatment.
