Should monogamy be relabeled as a religion?

I am intrigued by Justin Natoli’s idea of reframing monogamy as a religion. The belief that complete sexual and social monogamy is the only healthy relationship dynamic is pervasive in American culture, and yet 50% of relationships include infidelity by at least one person in the relationship. As Natoli cites in “The Church of Monogamy” even couples who are happy in their relationships have cheated (56% of males, 34% of females)! Monogamy tries to sell us on the idea that having “The One True Love” will soothe all of the heartache, loneliness, and trauma experienced in life, and that myth is simply not true! Reframing monogamy as a religion means that non-monogamy can be a different, but still entirely valid option. Check out Justin Natoli’s article here on impulsegrp.org.
