Although it’s taken a while to acknowledge, women and men sex addicts have different motivations. Men may engage in voyeuristic sex, prostitution, and anonymous or exploitative sex, which has little or no emphasis on emotional involvement. Women sex addicts, however, focus on fantasy sex, seductive role sex and using sex for power and attention. Author Charlotte Kasl says “…women in our culture are primarily trained to be sexual codependents,” in that they may use sex to maintain a relationship, whether or not they really want to have sex. True intimacy is not involved for either men or women in these situations.
