Fetishes Do Not Exist

Researchers Ogi Ogas, Ph.D. and Sai Gaddam, Ph.D. believe the term “fetish” and the clinical name “paraphilias” should no longer be used, because after exhaustive study they’ve determined these terms “embody both a derogatory and misguided understanding of the nature of human sexual preference.” According to Ogas and Gaddam, peoples’ sexual interests encompass a wide range, and these interests should not be labeled as atypical or deviant. Over 100 different fetishes are listed in the Handbook of Clinical Sexuality for Mental Health Professionals; however, the researchers found these fetishes did not resemble the clinical results they discovered in their study.
