Are you texting too much?

Could your excessive texting habit be affecting more than just the flexibility in your thumbs? A new study just published in the Journal of Couple and Relationship Therapy says texting and overuse of other similar types of technology have a harmful impact on relationships, self-esteem, empathy, cognitive-ability, productivity, depression and anxiety. The researchers theorize that it has to do with the decreased about of time communicating face-to-face.

“Technology is more important to relationship formation than it was previously…Reaction to disappointment and reality testing occurs more quickly face to face,” he said, “There is a narrowness with texting and you don’t get to see the breadth of a person that you need to see.” This disconnect, experts say, results in many misunderstandings and communication mix-ups, which can erode the foundation of a relationship and eventually lead to complete relationship failure.
