The Monogamy Gap: Men, Love, and the Reality of Cheating

Author Eric Anderson, Ph.D., believes that monogamy has failed. Speaking from the male perspective, and after interviewing 120 young men for his book, he states his central thesis: “…cheating is a rational response to the irrational expectation of monogamy.” Anderson suggests that young men don’t want to lose their emotional relationships with their partners, however, “cheating becomes the only rational choice to have their emotional and sexual desires met.” Anderson maintains the somewhat confusing stance of not condoning cheating, but condemning the societal expectation of monogamy. In his research, he found that 78% of respondents cheated, leading to his conclusion.
