Sexual Freedom vs. Sexual Addiction: The Gay Male Conundrum

Sexual addiction expert Robert Weiss cites statistics suggesting that ten percent of gay men are sex addicts. This is not due to their sexual orientation, as straight male sex addicts show the same symptoms. The vast majority of men who seek treatment for sexual addiction are married, straight men; Weiss suggests this is because of the cultural expectations of heterosexual married couples. He believes that as gay marriage becomes more accepted, there will be greater accountability between couples, and that will help homosexual sex addicts deal with their issues. Weiss also notes the higher incidence of multiple addictions among male sex addicts.
