Trump’s recent action to rescind former President Obama’s school bathroom order has put our transgender and gender nonconforming (TG/NC) youth at renewed and heightened risk, both for violence and discrimination, but also for suicide, mental illness, and self-harm.
The American Family Therapy Academy (AFTA) recently issued a statement supporting the rights of these students. I appreciate them stepping up. Family therapists can and should help protect the rights and safety of all students, especially those who are the most vulnerable.
I stand with the AFTA in their stance against Trump’s Executive Order and support any efforts to help reverse that decision.
