Gender Issues: What Mental Health Providers Need to Know about Working with the Transgender Community

In this workshop, Dr. Miletski will describe the diversity within the transgender community and will focus on various gender issues mental health providers may encounter in their work. Specifically, Dr. Miletski will discuss the phenomenon of Cross-Dressing, Gender Dysphoria, and Intersex, with emphasis on treatment options and modalities.

In this course:

  • Participants will utilize the current gender variance vocabulary.
  • Participants will assess gender dysphoria.
  • Participants will list the various treatment options available for individuals with Gender Dysphoria.
  • Participants will describe the trauma individuals who are intersexed often experience.

Meet your instructor:

Hani Miletski, Ph.D., MSW, is a psychotherapist in private practice in Bethesda, Maryland, with over 23 years of clinical experience. She is a Certified Sex Therapist (Diplomate) and Supervisor by the American Association for Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT). Dr. Miletski is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master’s degree in Social Work from the Catholic University of America, National School of Social Service, in Washington, DC, and with a Doctoral Degree in Human Sexuality from the Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality, in San Francisco, California.
She is the author of Mother-Son Incest: The Unthinkable Broken Taboo Persists, Understanding Bestialtiy and Zoophilia, and a variety of other professional articles and chapters in professional journals. Dr. Miletski has been lecturing, training and supervising other therapists and professionals in the field of human sexuality throughout the world.
Dr. Miletski was born is Israel and served in the Israeli Defense Forces as an officer before coming to the US at the age of 24. She has been blissfully married for 17 years.
