      • Most therapists and professionals who work with sexuality face their own issues and countertransference around eroticism and intimacy as they start their career as sex therapists. Treatment protocols are unclear and normally they rely on their limited training or their own personal experiences. This can bring up awkward and uncomfortable feelings that can create blocks in the therapy. The personal bias of the therapist also can confuse the real issues in treatment and mirror pathology for the client. In Tammy’s SAR workshop we will work through sexual issues, resistance, guilt and shame, and create ways to help challenge resistance around stereotypes, or old beliefs around sex.

Feb 6 (Thu) 9 am – 12 pm – Anatomy and Treatment of Sexual Pain From Puberty Through Childbirth and Into Menopause with Rivka Sidorsky

      • This training will introduce therapists to medical and psychological realities of pelvic pain disorders throughout the female life span, exploring sexual pain from puberty to childbirth to postpartum to menopause. According to leading research, the prevalence of women who experience vaginal pain is 9.3%. For some, this will be a temporary gripe. For others, it may be a longer-lasting condition. It is imperative that therapists have the tools necessary to identify this need, diagnose the disorders, and have treatment interventions for these conditions throughout the female lifespan. The course will cover the biological mechanisms of sexual functioning, sexual pain, and penetration problems. It will also introduce practical tools and intervention techniques for treatment of genital pain disorders.

Feb 7 (Fri) 9 am – 5 pm – Introduction to the Integration of Couples and Sex Therapy with Gail Guttman, LCSW

    • The integration of couples’ therapy and sex therapy is no easy task. Couples therapy is a deepening process for both couples and individuals. Sex therapy at its core is a cognitive-behavior therapy. Many couples’ therapists are taught little about sex therapy. They often learn that repairing the attachment wound and creating reconnection will solve the sexual problem.
Through this presentation, we will explore an overview of the integration of couples and sex therapy. Many components of knowledge are necessary to explore this topic, such as psychodynamic theory, relational and medical issues. An understanding of the importance of sexual knowledge in order to educate our clients about healthy, positive sexual attitudes is crucial. A summary of basic skills will be presented and practiced, including Sensate Focus. Most importantly, we will look at our own attitudes about addressing sexuality and discuss ways to bring up the topic of sexuality with our individuals and couples.
    • Meets Requirements for:
      • AASECT Core Knowledge Areas: Sex Ed A, B, C, E, G, I, M, O; Sex Therapy
      • Certified Sex and Couples Therapist (CSCT): Category A, C, E, F, G

Feb 8 (Sat) 9 am – 12 pm – More Tech, More Talking: How Evolving Sex Tech is Pushing Us to Re-Think Fidelity with Ari Tuckman, PsyD, MBA

      • Recent developments in sex tech create both fascinating opportunities to explore and express our sexualities, as well as novel and not-so-novel challenges to definitions of fidelity. This presentation will help attendees support individuals and couples to ask themselves and each other the right questions so they can create a fidelity agreement that creates the best balance between freedom and security. The interactivity and hyper-realism of new sex tech will push therapists to see fidelity in more nuanced ways in order to help clients navigate these new waters.
      • Meets Requirements for:
        • AASECT Core Knowledge Areas: Sex Ed ; Sex Therapy
        • Certified Sex and Couples Therapist (CSCT): Category

Feb 8 (Sat) 12 pm – 5 pm – ADHD in Love and Bed: Treating Couples When One Partner has ADHD with Ari Tuckman, PsyD, MBA

      • Adults with ADHD are over-represented in therapy offices, especially couples/sex therapy, because of the many ways that it can impact relationship functioning, yet there is little available for clinicians on how to work most effectively with the one out of eleven couples with one ADHD partner. ADHD is a neurologically-based information processing disorder that impacts the individual’s mindset and thereby makes certain relationship dynamics more likely. This seminar will give you practical strategies on how to improve relationship and sexual satisfaction for both partners.
      • Meets Requirements for:
        • AASECT Core Knowledge Areas: Sex Ed ; Sex Therapy
        • Certified Sex and Couples Therapist (CSCT): Category

All lectures will be taught by top experts recognized in the field of human sexuality both nationally and worldwide. Other faculty may be announced at a later time.

Included in your tuition: eWorkbook for module, complied by Tammy Nelson, Ph.D. with additional reading material and resources. Also included, coffee, drinks and light refreshments in the mornings.
