Nov 10 (Wed) 10 am – 1 pm (Eastern) – Cybersex: Cheating and the Internet with Tammy Nelson, Ph.D.
The dilemmas around sexuality in our culture abound. We are confused about our desires. When fantasies are repressed, they can be split off and compartmentalized, detached from relationships and objectified in porn, or onto the technical non-human side of the internet, real or illusionary.
We will review ethical guidelines for sex therapists, counselors, and educators and open the conversation around the ethics of cybersex for anyone interested in joining this discussion.
Nov 10 (Wed) 2 pm – 6 pm (Eastern) – Cybersex: Robots and the Future of Sex and Tech with Tammy Nelson, Ph.D. **UPDATED COURSE**
Working with sexuality and the erotic behavior many people engage in today can challenge a therapist’s deeply held beliefs about sex and relationships. It can be difficult just to keep up with the impact of technology on sexual behavior, especially with the advent of sex robots, teledildonics, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality. Intensive and fun, this workshop includes videos, expert panels, and small-group discussions to help therapists face their own preconceived notions and countertransference around sex and intimacy. You’ll explore:
- Your own sex-related stereotypes, resistance, confusion, and shame in order to create a safe, nonjudgmental environment for clients
- Alternative sexual practices that may come up in therapy, like open relationships, dom/sub relationships, nonmonogamy, fetishes, and BDSM
- How clients are affected by new sex tech, including virtual reality and AI porn
- How to expand your ability to communicate about sexual issues in the consulting room, and help clients create new pathways for pleasure in their relationships
- Ways to process triggers and vicarious trauma that may be activated by unconventional sexual behavior
Nov 11 (Thu) 10 am – 1 pm (Eastern) – Creating and Expanding Your Private Practice with Tammy Nelson, Ph.D.
This course will focus on how to create a thriving business. If you have dreamed of being an entrepreneur but worry that you won’t have enough clients, or wonder if you should take insurance, or if your practice should be in person or online, this course will help you decide what type of practice you want. If you are a sex therapist, creating a sex therapy private practice is a unique business and has its own process and keys to success. Learning about the keys to success for any small business owner today can help you create a personal professional plan and map out your strategy today. This course will be followed up in May 2022 with a personalized roadmap to increase your sex therapy referrals with n Evan Leepson and Gail Guttman’s course based on the book Critical Connections – The Step-by-Step Guide to Transforming Your Business Through Referral Marketing.
Nov 11 (Thu) 2 pm – 6 pm (Eastern) – Research and Writing and Publishing for Therapists with Tammy Nelson, Ph.D.
In this course, you’ll learn how to identify your own story in order to manage your emotions and translate them into the arc of a book. Transformation is the goal of any book, including fiction, nonfiction, self-help, and memoir. In an article in Harvard Business Review, research says that personal writing helps heal you physically, emotionally, and psychologically. “…writing about traumatic or stressful events in one’s life results in stronger immune function and physical health…” According to Forbes Magazine, journaling helps you envision health, set goals, and follow steps similar to psychotherapy. In this course, we will practice writing as a tool for professional and personal healing. We will practice self-empowering structured writing exercises as a form of narrative therapy similar to those used at Harvard, and as a storied context for multicultural counseling.
Nov 12 (Fri) 10 am – 1 pm (Eastern) – Ethics & the Sex Therapist with Michael Giordano, LICSW
You create your OK Cupid account, start scanning the Quickmatch feature, and are quickly match at 85% compatibility with a current client. What do you do, besides feeling sick to your stomach? This workshop will explore some modern dilemmas faced by sex therapists, especially therapists looking for love or other pleasures. With the guidance of the AASECT Code of Ethics and our own personal & professional philosophies, we will clarify our wants and desires for our clients & for or ourselves, while exploring how our personal lives interact with our professional lives.
In this workshop, attendees will participate in both small and large group discussions, talking about how to navigate online dating, going to your favorite yoga class, participating at your local dungeon, and seeing clients at a small gathering, and similar situations. Less didactic and more interactive, we will work to discuss the issues we don’t often talk about, all within an ethical, client-focused framework.
We will discuss the challenges of dating, gender identities, kink, sexuality, and other issues that come up around being a sex therapist and living in the world.
Nov 13 (Sat) 10 am – 1 pm (Eastern) – Alternative Therapies: Using Intuition for Business and Life with Melanie Barnum, CH

It will teach you how to utilize your natural extrasensory perception to accelerate your career and improve your personal life. You will learn to explore what matters most to your clients and learn how to become an intuitive leader.
Nov 13 (Sat) 1 pm – 6 pm (Eastern) – Alternative Integrative Therapies & Contemporary Sexuality, What’s Next? with Tammy Nelson, Ph.D.
