Jan 30 (Sat) 9 am – 5 pm (EST) – Men’s Sexual Health Issues: Confronting Shame and Embracing Good Enough Sex with Barry McCarthy, Ph.D.

This workshop focuses on complex clinical cases with the theme of confronting sexual secrets and shame and being a proud survivor. We will explore clinical issues, including:

1. Resistance adopting the Good Enough Sex (GES) model
2. Confronting a history of sexual trauma
3. Adopting the responsive sexual desire strategy
4. Implementing the desire/pleasure/eroticism/satisfaction mantra
5. Confronting the traditional male-female double standard and replacing it with female-male sexual equity
6. Being a “wise man” who enjoys sexuality in his 60’s, 70’, and 80’s.
7. Determining whether his sexual orientation is homosexual, heterosexual, or bisexual+

In addition, we will emphasize the importance of an individualized relapse prevention for male and couple sexual problems.

About the Trainers:

Gail Guttman, LCSW, specializes in the integration of couples and sex therapy. With more than 30 years of experience, Gail Guttman is a couples’ therapist with a specialty in sex therapy. She offers a unique opportunity for clients to address their sexual concerns within the context of their relationship. Gail’s passion includes developing the theory and practice of integrating couples and sex therapy. She helps psychotherapists become more competent and confident in these areas. In her practice, she conducts ongoing consultation/supervision groups in which cases and theory are discussed, and an important support network for therapists is created. Gail conducts training workshops and seminars at professional associations and conferences and is a regular presenter at the Integrative Sex Therapy Institute for the last several years. She is an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist, Sex Therapy Supervisor, and CE Provider. Gail is a Maryland Social Work Supervisor. Gail has presented on the subject of couples and sex therapy at the Integrative Sex Therapy Institute, Greater Washington Society for Clinical Social Workers, previous Imago therapy conferences, the University of Maryland, and other professional organizations. Barry McCarthy, Ph.D. is a professor of psychology at American University, a diplomate in clinical psychology, a certified sex therapist, and a certified couple therapist. He has published more than 110 professional articles, 29 book chapters, and 14 books. Barry has presented more than 450 professional workshops in the United States and internationally. In 2016 he received the Masters and Johnson award for lifetime contributions to the sexuality field.

Dr. Nasserzadeh recognizes the power of media as an impactful means to deliver information to all sectors of society. Combining her expertise as a former journalist and her clinical expertise, “Dr. Sara” created and hosted a program called Whispers for the BBC World Service in 2006. For the past two decades, Dr. Nasserzadeh has been a senior cultural advisor and strategic consultant for governments, international NGOs, UN agencies, Fortune 500 companies, academic institutions, professional organizations, and the private sector across 40 countries. Dr. Nasserzadeh has three award-winning books in English; Orgasm Answer Guide, Wheel of Context for Sexuality Education, and Sexual Health Need and Preferences of “Hard to Reach” Young People. Daniel Rosen, LCSW-R, AASECT Certified Sex Therapist (CST) has been in practice for over 25 years working with a variety of populations. He completed training with the Optimal Sexual Experiences Research Team of the University of Ottawa in November 2019 and has been active in the Rochester Area Group Psychotherapy Society, the Center for Group Studies, and is a sex therapy supervisor in training. He has an independent private practice including group, individual, and couples counseling as well as providing treatment services for the Rochester Center for Sexual Wellness.
