Tammy’s powerful workshop satisfies this requirement and brings your work to the next level.

Sex therapists need training and tools to intervene with sexual dilemmas. They also need self-care interventions to prevent burnout and secondary post-traumatic stress in this difficult time in our culture. Participants will review the theories of compassion fatigue and secondary trauma and their effect on treatment providers. Students will develop strategies for coping with stress and discuss the unique elements of a front-line issue since we are going into our third year of the COVID-19 pandemic. Treatment is impossible for our clients without self-care techniques and interventions, and tools for heightened awareness of secondary post-traumatic stress. We will review methods of approach to intervention in therapeutic relationships where there can be countertransference, transference, and power differential conflicts, and practice self-care practices including direct writing exercises, art therapy, mindfulness, breathing, and yoga.

We will review practical and theoretical tools to effectively track positive outcomes related to the importance of self-care practices techniques and interventions for preventing and treating burnout and the theories and interventions designed to develop a self-care plan to meet the changing needs of sex and couple’s therapists.

Based on clinical practice, research, and case examples, we will cover interventions and how these impact current therapy techniques.  This class will help participants create a vision for their clinical work, and foster effective, ethical therapeutic relationships both with their clients and their colleagues.
