Integrative Sex and Couples Therapy training is a must-have for all professionals to learn how sex therapy and relationship therapy can be used to help couples heal. This training is full of practical, clinical interventions and includes case examples and anecdotal stories. The course includes research, stories, and interventions from Dr. Nelson’s thirty years of therapy with couples as well as research and models by other authors, researchers, professors, sex therapists and couple’s therapists who have contributed their experience and expertise in this interesting and important work.
Integrative Sex and Couples Therapy will be a requirement for all therapists in this who are interested in pursuing the Certification in Sex and Couples Therapy (CSCT). The CSCT is a new designation for all therapists, offered only by the Integrative Sex Therapy Institute. The certification proves to the professional community and to clients that clinicians are experienced and trained in both areas – sex therapy and relationship therapy and takes the training one step further – it integrates and advances the practitioners knowledge to guarantee cutting edge criteria needed to take the therapist into the future of relationship treatment.
The course will include clinical interventions and instruction for therapists working with couples and sexuality issues. It is imperative for a therapist to have a strong understanding of the relational paradigm and learn effective tools to use this model. Most therapists have not had adequate training in either area, let alone both.
Sex therapy has its roots in cognitive behavior therapy, integrating the relationship paradigm with Object Relations, Psychoanalysis, Attachment Theory and Cognitive Behavior Therapy as well as Family System Theory. Recently, more theories add complexity to the work of the couple’s/sex therapist including recent studies of neuroscience and even nutrition and alternative treatments.
This class will look at introductory techniques and interventions for sex and couple’s therapy and how they relate to current practice. We will review Imago Relationship Therapy and Sex, Emotionally Focused Therapy and Sex Therapy, and Internal Family Systems and Sex Therapy. We will cover Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Sex Therapy, and PACT or the Psychobiological Approach to Couples therapy and Sexuality.
