Dr. Nelson works closely with small groups in this extended 2-hour supervision for supervisors in training. Tammy helps therapists to develop perspective and insight on traditional therapy concerns as well as information on up-to-date topics impacting your work with clients.


AASECT Supervisor-in-Training (SIT) Certification – Supervision Group

Supervision is held via web conferencing online and is designed to be accessible from anywhere. Supervision is an opportunity to work closely with Dr. Tammy Nelson, a Ph.D. Board Certified, Master Level, Expert therapist.

Qualified SIT’s will work toward finding two individual clients or couples to supervise. These clients can present with any issues that impact their sexual relationship, including desire, arousal and orgasm phase difficulties, medically related sexual dysfunctions, and relationship conflicts.

In order to be a Supervisor-in-Training for AASECT Sex Therapists, you must:

  • Hold a valid license
  • Be a Certified Sex Therapist for 3 years
  • Have received a minimum of 30 hours of individual and group supervision (50% max group)
  • Work with a minimum of 2 supervisees prior to certification (but not lead group)
  • Provide 2 professional recommendations
  • Evaluation by Supervisor for knowledge of: general field of sexuality, sex therapy, skill as a therapist in general and, specifically, as a sex therapist; capacity for serving in the role of supervisor; general ability to assume responsibilities; and ethical behavior.

Supervision will give you a chance to:

  • Share your cases
  • Hear ample feedback
  • Receive interventions and direction from Tammy
  • Receive input from the group

Each participant will have time to present cases, ask questions, and learn from other participants.  Group discussion, experiential intervention, and optional homework may include reading material, videos, and other suggestions for the practice of hands-on skills. Maximum participation is encouraged. All experience and backgrounds are encouraged to participate, and all dynamics and approaches welcome.

Tammy Nelson Ph.D. is a Board Certified Sexologist and Diplomate of the American Board of Sexology, an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist, a Certified AASECT Sex Therapy Clinical Supervisor, and Organizational Provider. She is an internationally acclaimed psychotherapist; a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Certified Imago Relationship Therapist. She is a TEDx speaker and host of the podcast “The Trouble with Sex.”

Tammy has been a therapist for 35 years and is the Executive Director of the Integrative Sex Therapy Institute and Director of M.A. & Ph.D. Human Sexuality and Sex Therapy Specialization at Daybreak University in Southern California. She is on the faculty of the California Institute of Integral Studies and is a regularly invited speaker at many industry-wide conferences including the Networker Symposium in Washington DC.

Missed Session Policy

Supervision is intended to be continual and consistent. Supervisees reserve their seat for the entirety of a strictly size-limited group supervision series. Supervision sessions canceled by Supervisor due to illness or emergency will be rescheduled at no cost to participants. Supervisees who miss a session due to illness or another emergency can make up only 1 missed session in a 12 month period by attending another group (if available) within 60 days, or complete an assignment that includes reading material or videos assigned by the Supervisor. There are no refunds/discounts for a partial series or multiple missed sessions.
