Participants will learn what constitutes clinical competency with gay men. We will review sexual decision-making and its consequences in the age of Grindr and PreP. Instructor Michael Giordano will discuss hook up apps, PreP, and review case studies/scenarios where these issues are either problematic, helpful or both. This class will explore reactions to these scenarios and review/educate terminology/language gay men use. Participants will explore the core of principles of sexual health for guidance in their work with gay men. The first hour of the session will focus on information; the second hour will focus on case studies.

In this course:

  • Participants will be able to articulate what PrEP & TasP are and the benefits of each.
  • Participants will be able to describe how internal biases around gay/queer men’s sexual expression can be identified and challenged.

 

Meet your instructor:

Based in Washington, DC, Michael Giordano has been a Clinical Social Worker since 1999. He earned his MSW from the University of Maryland, Baltimore and worked in small non-profits before entering private practice in 2007. His main interests are gender identity, trauma, and sex therapy.
