We are seeing a tidal shift in human relationships and love. Attitudes toward infidelity, online relationships and a wide range of technical experiences have changed the way we look at marriage and the future. This webinar will take a deeper look at the future of monogamy. We will examine VR, AI, group marriage, sex Ed, divorce, and new and old forms of commitment. We will interview and explore some of the hottest trend setting ideas posited by the most cutting edge relational and future thinkers.

Tammy Nelson will talk with Wednesday Martin, Bryony Cole, Sue Jay Johnson and Katherine Woodward Thomas in the extended Advanced classes.

  • Session 1 – Monogamy; Can it Survive? with Dr. Tammy Nelson
  • Session 2 – Part One: The Future of Female with Wednesday Martin
  • Session 3 – Part Two: Digital Relationships – Online, Alternative and Robots with Bryony Cole
  • Session 4 – Part Three: The Future of Parenting; What to Tell Kids with Sue Jaye Johnson
  • Session 5 – Part Four: The Future of Uncoupling with Katherine Woodward Thomas
    • None of us want to break up in ways that do irreparable damage to ourselves, and family and children. Conscious Uncoupling, created by marriage and family therapist Katherine Woodward Thomas and made famous by Gwyneth Paltrow, provides a blueprint for separations most known for their acts of kindness, big-hearted gestures of generosity and for efforts made to do the right thing for the right reasons. The future of breakups and divorce is about learning to end our romantic unions in honorable ways, and discovering how we can all live happily even after.

In this course:

  • Participants will explore the new fluid types of monogamy and how couples create them intentionally, with honesty, transparency and equality. Singles, polyamory, open relationships, swinging and other forms of relationships will be discussed.
  • Participants will expand understanding of how to create sustainable relationships by identifying explicit monogamy agreements and how to create positive and fluidly relationships in any type of marriage including the varieties of open behaviors.
  • Participants will explore the reversal of much of what we have been taught about female sexuality, including the reality that women crave variety and novel sexual experience at least as much as men do, and may struggle with monogamy more than their male partners or husbands. We will review sex research, primatology, and anthropology to improve insights on female libido, lust, and “infidelity.”
  • Participants will explore how to teach children about sex and pleasure. We will explore the pleasure vs the performance model. Participants will Identify how the dilemma of personal and relational integrity can eventually contribute to a broader change in our culture.
  • Participants will explore how technology is forming its own middle space in sexuality. We will define the range of possibilities for orgasm and imaginative experiences focused on the individual and how innovation will affect intimacy and impact the experience you create with others, including the boundaries with Virtual Reality sex robot cheating and intimacy.
  • Participants will define conscious uncoupling and intentional divorce. We will define and practice theory and the use of dialogue, empathy and validation to create future sustainable relationships. Participants will consider and explore their own professional identity in regard to working with divorcing couples.
  • Participants will learn a new paradigm of the future of marriage with couples wherein effective relational therapy and consciousness raising can lead to a healthy and sound decision to end the marriage, after which the therapeutic work centers around intentional endings.

She views the world through the lenses of anthropology, primatology, and feminism and her writing has appeared in The New York Times, The Atlantic, Refinery29, The Forward, and Time among others. Her books–#1 New York Times bestseller Primates of Park Avenue and Stepmonster–ignited controversy and started conversations about motherhood, misogyny, marriage, and power. Her new book, UNTRUE: Why Nearly Everything We Believe About Women, Lust, and Infidelity Is Wrong and How the New Science Can Set Us Free considers the long history of misrepresenting female sexuality in science, medicine, psychology, and popular culture. Through interviews with 30 experts and women from every walk of life, UNTRUE turns much of what we think about women, infidelity and female sexuality on its head and aims to start a conversation about female sexual entitlement and the future of pleasure, power, and relationships.

Bryony Cole: To date, I’ve talked to 250+ experts and everyday people about the future of sex What have I learned so far?
Through stories with technologists, scientists, filmmakers and therapists, I have seen how technology is forming its own middle space in sexuality; located between the act of having sex with someone and having sex with yourself.
While technology is continuing to create a range of possibilities for better orgasm and more imaginative experiences focused on the individual, a largely unexplored area is how these innovations will affect intimacy or impact the mutual experience you create with others.
How will we form new relationship boundaries with VR? Is sex with a robot cheating? Is intimacy with a robot even possible?
I’m thrilled to be able to share these stories with you.

Sue Jaye Johnson is a journalist and TED Resident investigating pleasure and parenting. She is working on a book and podcast reimagining how and what we teach our children about sex.
Sex is not an isolated part of our lives. How we want our children to show up as sexual beings is how we want them to show up in life: confident, responsible, respectful, playful, clear communicators, healthy, loving, intuitive, embodied, with a strong relationship to pleasure. Sex is not the only way to experience pleasure. But pleasure is a prerequisite for experiencing the full potential of sex. And pleasure is a prerequisite for experiencing the full potential of life.
However you define your values and desires for physical and emotional intimacy and connection with another person, whatever your existing relationship is to pleasure, this talk aims to help parents pass on collective wisdom to our children in ways that are aligned with your own beliefs and what the particular desires you have for yourself and your children.
