Description
Many drugs impact sexual function, including illegal, also called recreational drugs, and legal, prescription and over the counter drugs. Many of these substances affect sexual desire, arousal, and function. Some function is psychosexual, some are physical, and some creates long-term and temporary side effects. We touch on how drug companies create ongoing addiction problems and how the war on drugs may have created our war on sex and the new “sex addiction” culture in psychotherapy and the popular culture.
This course covers assessment, treatment, and effects of recreational and illicit drug abuse including street drugs and club drugs. We discuss how these drugs both enhance sexual experiences and erotic sensation, but inhibit sexual function. We will also cover long-term sexual recovery in abstinence and in sobriety.
