Catholic church reconsidering divorce in marriages

The Catholic church has maintained rigorous doctrines regarding the romantic and sexual relationships of it’s believers including condemnation of divorce. Marriage as a sacrament provided by God and irreversible by man is a fundamental belief in the Catholic church. Catholics who choose to divorce often stop practicing and suffer separation from their spirituality and community. In many cases, divorced Catholics are refused communion, experience judgment or isolation from priests and bishops, or undergo invasive interrogation when seeking annulment of their marriage.

My mother was separated and considering divorce in 1968. She was a member of the Catholic church and was told she would be ex-communicated if she sought divorce, but my father could continue in the church.

As divorce becomes more common in modern society, the Vatican is reconsidering its treatment of divorced Catholics.
